New Season Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians & Runners

Welcome back to a new school year and a new Cross-Country season.

Last season saw serious effort and determination from the whole squad, and success was enjoyed on a regular basis. To be confirmed at the National Relays in Coventry as the highest ranked state comprehensive in the country once again was a fantastic achievement and testament to the hard work and dedication of all involved.

This season promises more opportunities for our runners to compete in our local Surrey League against Tiffin, Oxted, Wallington, Trinity and Whitgift in relay and race meets, as well as the prestigious competitions at Charterhouse, Lancing College, Harrow, Wimbledon College and St.Albans amongst others. The fixture list is attached to this letter, and as you can see it is a busy schedule.

The profile of cross-country has certainly been raised in the past couple of years with Ricky Lutakome leading the way for the senior squad to gain national recognition. They are proof that hard-work and training can reap reward. They will be looking for major success this year but students of all ages have a massive part to play in the continuing success of our sport, and they should all be striving to perform alongside the seniors in the future.

The blog www.jfsxc.blogspot.co.uk has information on how to prepare effectively for cross-country events, as well as results and photos from the season. I urge you to take a look at it this year.

I would like to thank in advance Miss Tomes for her unstinting dedication to cross-country, as well as Mr Upcott and Mr O’Halloran for their invaluable enthusiasm and running experience.

As usual I will publish details for upcoming events and distribute to the students the week before, but please also keep the fixture list or check the blog for details.

I would like to meet all of the cross-country squad at Friday lunchtime in room 72 so we can discuss the aims of the season. There will be refreshments supplied and it should be a relatively short meeting.

Many thanks in advance for your support this season

Yours Faithfully

Mr D.Fell (Master i/c Cross-Country)
