Deceptive Judd Course Challenge

JFS travelled to Tonbridge to compete at the home of the National XC Champions for the first time, unsure what to expect.
With the usual schools in attendance, plus a couple of newcomers it was down to business for this 5-man relay race.
The course was a two-lap, 1.8 mile distance, and on first glance looked to be a flat and relatively uneventful course. However the afternoon would prove harder than first expected with times a lot slower than the same distances 2 weeks ago at Tiffin. The ground was soggy and a long upwards incline towards the end of each lap would prove deceptive. It was also bitterly cold and photos were not possible due to hands being firmly in pockets!

The A Team ran, as always, with great heart and a finishing position of 5th was a fantastic achievement. Well done to Harry and Malachi who stepped up into the A Team and once again well done to Freddy for his fastest JFS time.

Medals at Hampton

A wet and soggy course greeted the 2 senior teams at the Hampton Paarlauf on Wednesday but an absence of some of the schools from previous years raised hopes of a medal.

The Paarlauf is always fun and very different from normal meets

The teams of 3 run continuously around a 1 mile course for 24 minutes, passing the baton when they see fit but having run a minimum of 400 metres with it. In effect this results in around 500-600 metres for each runner, who then has to jog back along the course to receive the baton for their next leg.

It was quickly apparent that Guildford would win as their team streaked into a massive lead, but JFS were in 3 rd place after the first rotation, and were able to hold off challenges quite comfortably to finish with well-deserved bronze medals!

The B team were pleasantly surprised to win the First Senior B Team and so gold medals to them

Well done all!

Wet and Windy at Judge Cup

JFS travelled to out friends Tiffins for the 70th running of the Judge Cup. Until recently a long run through Richmond Park, it is now a relay race around the Tiffin playing fields and requires a runner from Year 7-10 and then 2 seniors. The order of running is also determined by age.

Upon arrival, and seeing the strength of the schools attending, including national heavyweights St Albans and Judd expectations were reigned in somewhat, but it would be an excellent challenge nonetheless

Whilst flat, the 1.7m legs were across wet ground and the wind was extremely gusty. Both A and B team runners ran really well and we were pleased with the outcome

Junior Knole Improvement

Huge congratulations to the 11 harfy year 7s and 8s who ran the prestigious Junior Knole run last friday to record the best result at the event for 3 years.
the A Team finished in 14th place, which considering it is the national event for their age group bodes very well for the future. The 2.1 mile course is on soft ground with a dangerously packed start and 2 big hills to overcome.
Well done to all
