Kings trophy Challenge
The Senior squad embarked on their first midweek fixture to the daunting course through Wimbledon Common on Wednesday 2nd October for 4.7 miles, through forest and gold course!
Turned away from the early toilet break, some runners had to embark on a long excursion to the toilet at the other end of the common, but the whole team were ready to go when the time came
The river wouldn't be an obstacle this year due to environmental reasons, and the deluge of rain that week so far hadn't actually made the course a quagmire
Stirring words from captain Messette who has impressed all with his leadership skills so far this year got the team ready, and a first appearance of XC legend Miss Tomes and coach Francis meant we were fully motivated
The race was a little confusing, with stewarding errors leading to at least 3 separate races being run, but a strong field including some of the best schools in the country would be a tough but rewarding field.
The boys all ran really well, and all can take great heart from their performances. All who had previously ran bettered their times, and the first-timers can be confident now they have run this distance

Tiffin Debuts a Success
Saturday 21st September saw a number of highly promising Year 7 runners make their debuts for JFS at Tiffin school.
They all ran with great heart and determination, special mention to Daniel Finch (7N) who ran for the Inters age group.
The Inters ran well to shake off early season cobwebs, and the Seniors also ran with gusto.
Times and results to follow, but below are the debut runners - well done all!

House Cross Country
This annual event was held earlier this year, which is excellent news for XC, allowing talent identification at an earlier stage.
Full results to be published at the end of term Kennedy Cup, but below are the top finishers in each year group.
An excellent showing from regular school runners!

Second at Charterhouse
A fabulous performance at Charterhouse over the gruelling 4 mile course saw 2nd place secured and some real sweat and determination on show
With a reduced but experienced team, with Emmanuel Victor agreeing to run an age group up, the aim was to simply get around as most of the team had limited fitness after the summer months.
Conditions were perfect for running, and the setting of Charterhouse always inspires
Alfie finished as the top JFS runner in, followed by Paul Hewitt and Joe Roberts and Ebuka pipped Jack on the final bend. Well done to Emmanuel and Matthew who ran with great heart
It was quite a surprise when we were announced as 2nd, but well done to all the runners, what a great start to the season!

End of Season report
Cross-Country has once again completed a successful season
with several runners showing huge commitment to then sport and continuously
improving.
The highlights this term include the two national events. The
Senior Knole Run attracts schools from as far away as Ireland and is THE
national race. The 5.8 mile course in a real challenge, and to finish as the 12th
placed team and the first comprehensive state school was one of our best
results in recent years.
It was then relay season, with distances usually 1.5-2.5
miles per leg.
At the Gaoter Cup a runner from each Year Group 7-13 were
needed per team and 7th place was fantastic. Chris Finch in Year 7
outstanding in recording the 2nd quickest lap time for a Year 7.
The Wellington Relays fell victim to the weather so it was on
to the National RELAY race in Coventry where, for the first time in 5 years, a
number of circumstances, led to a disappointing overall performance but still a
remarkably quick lap time from Year 10 Freddy Georgiou.
7th at Radley and 4th at the local
South London Harriers completed the season.
Massive thanks go to those Seniors who have pulled on the
John Fisher vest for the final time, captain Jacob Jones, Gianluca Ercolano and
Ben Brant, and well done to all those who have run this year in every year
group.
The cross country shield is awarded this year to a runner
whose commitment to cross-country is remarkable considering he is the only
runner from his year group. Not blessed with the natural talent of others, he
has exhibited that crucial attribute of all runners, determination and
commitment that has seen his run really well at national events.
The shield this year goes to Peter Edwards
