CHANGE OF WEEKEND FIXTURE

Image result for parkrun

The fixture at Tiffin this weekend has been cancelled due to staff illness at Tiffin.

So instead we will be travelling the short distance to Roundshaw for our 3rd Parkrun of the season.

After a break of 3 weeks for most runners, this will be a stern test, but with Personal Bests galore last time all can look forward to improving once again.

I propose to meet everyone at the start which is near to the Battle of Britain Memorial on Purley Way.

If unsure, boys can walk from our playing fields following the school cross country route until they find us.

The race will begin at 9.00 sharp so I will meet you all from 8.30 onwards at the start.

If you have never run a Parkrun you will need to register before the race online. You will then have to print off a barcode which you carry in your pocket when running. This is then used to link the time to the runner. If you have registered before, remember your barcode this time!!
Information can be found at www.parkrun.org.uk/roundshaw/

If you chose to do a Parkrun local to you please do and I will see the results online

I will be available in Room 72 (The ICT room) Friday breaktime for any runners who need to register and print off their details.

RICKY IMPRESSES AT NATIONAL LEVEL

Ricky Lutakome continued his outstanding school for this year in the Liverpool Cross Challenge event last weekend. Over a 4.4 mile course in simply horrendous running conditions against the best U20 runners in the whole country Ricky finished in 8th place

What a stunning achievement.

Whilst only just missing out on selection for the GB Cross-Country U20 World Championship team, we hope Ricky will be representing England once again this year on the back of this strong showing.

Many congratulations to this elite sportsman, who is an example to all of our own Cross Country runners, showing that hard work and discipline bring you great rewards!

Junior Knole Run Challenge

As expected the Junior Knole was a real challenge to our Year 7 & 8 runners last Friday. This is the biggest race for this age group in the country, and whilst only 2.1 miles long, the course feels longer due to the soggy ground and 2 major hills. With 302 runners competing, the field was big and all the JFS runners were up for the challenge!
The team of 12 runners were divided into A,B and C teams depending on their finishing positions. Below are the results

Junior Knole Selection

Friday 17th November
Junior Knole Run competition

This is the most important and biggest junior race in the South of England. There are about 300 runners and the standard is very high. It is held in Knole Park and is organised by Sevenoaks School (next to the venue). It is 3.4km/2.1miles long. The ground is likely to be soft so if you have spikes check them today - about 10mm are best. The race starts at 2.45 if your parents wish to come. There is limited parking in Knole Park (NT), alternatively Solefields Rd carpark (opposite the school) as visitor parking at the school is suspended on this afternoon .

You will miss lessons 4 and 5. At 12.10 get changed in the Sportshall and go to the minibus. You will need warm clothes to wear before and after the race as it will be cold. Bring all of your belongings with you in the minibus.

There is food and a presentation of medals after the race.
We will be back at school by about 6.00.

Muddy Success at Lancing

MATCH AT LANCING COLLEGE vs Brighton Coll, Charterhouse, Harrow, Lancing, Ardingly, Sevenoaks

Well it was very muddy, pretty cold and somewhat wet but the JFS runners all overcame the odds on Saturday to run impressive times on what is a quintessential cross-country course.

The U16 course started in the very muddy field - see photo below, before a huge hill. This then leads to a rather enjoyable downhill sprint on paths and chalky tracks until a final uphill slog to the finish line.

The results are below. Well done to Freddy, Peter, Malachi and Ebuka, our first 4 finishers and thus the A Team as they won the competition by just one place! Well done the Year 8s Ebuka, Matt and Jhon who all ran well together. Paul Hewitt improved his 2016 time massively, and for the first-timers there is something to beat next time.

 U16 2.8 miles
  2. Georgiou  16.02  (2016 - 17.00)
  8. Edwards  17.45

The Senior course is a real challenge. A long distance with 3 hills and run on uneven tracks. Well done to all who ran, especially Ryan after his late night (and Mr Galvin). Harry showed some ominous form once again. The miles will stand them all in good stead for challenges to come!
