Success at Lancing College

Saturday 10th November saw the JFS SC Team head to the south coast for the annual fixture vs Brighton College, Charterhouse, Ardingly, Harrow, Lancing, & Sevenoaks

This is a great fixture in great surroundings

All the runners start above the school on a muddy field and run up a very steep slope to a track, the U16s then turn left for a downhill route of 2.8 miles, the Seniors turn left for a really challenging (the hardest race of the year - J.Jones) 5.8 miles route that takes in 3 hills, two of which are ridiculous and a varied terrain.

Luckily the weather held off and it was a crisp day and not too soft underfoot considering the mud baths of previous years.

 U16 2.8 miles
  2. Nkamuo  16.41  (18.26 - 2017)

27. Brant  43.26(50.08)             56 runners

TEAM  2nd  ( 11 teams)

Fantastic results all round. Special mention to Ebuka who smashed his previous time to finish 2nd. Joe Roberts once again showed his development as a runner of repute to finish 3rd. Matt Conway took a minute off his previous time and Paul Hewitt destroyed his previous time!. Both Fabian and Emmanuel improved and well done to Kalle and Dawid for their first time on this course

The Seniors were fantastic, Freddy showing his undoubted potential in 3rd place and first JFS finisher but Gianluca also running a top race and beating his previous best. Special mention to Ben Brant who took a barely credible 6 and 1/2 minutes of his time from last year.

Also mention to Mr Fell who also improved on his previous time from 2015 to finish in 48.40!

Park Run

Saturday 3rd November saw JFS runners compete at the Roundshaw Parkrun. With club runs on the same day and a couple of runners retiring from the race mid-way through it was depleted numbers, but still very beneficial to the boys. Well done to Matt and Paul for their PBs!

HASKELL CUP CHALLENGE

This annual relay event with 1.7 mile legs is an enjoyable one, and in the past we have had some success. Knowing that all of the 'big guns' compete the challenge was to improve on personal times and finish as close to last years 5th place as possible.

Several younger runners were also selected to give them the experience of a highly competitive senior event.

All the runners acquitted themselves brilliantly

The A team finished in 7th place overall and their times are as follows

Gianluca Ercolano      11.14  (2017: 11.50)
Jacob Jones                 12.10 (12.01)
Freddy Georgiou         11.51  (12.02)
Robbie Tambling         11.54

The B Team finished as the 8th B Team which was a great result, with younger runners as well

Malachi Messette       12.52  (13.16)
Ebuka Nkuamo           13.16
Alfie Smith                 13.12  (12.28)
Harry Smith                12.48  (12.01)

Matt Conway and Zack Johnson-Alleyne also ran as an incomplete C Team, and both ran great times

Matt Conway                 13.28
Zack Johnson-Alleyne   13.25

Well done to all who ran!!

Parkrun this Saturday

With no league fixture this weekend, we will once again be competing in the Roundshaw Parkrun this Saturday.

There are thousands of these 5k (3.1 miles) races every Saturday all across the UK and wider world – it has become a running phenomenon. It is a public event open to anyone and is free to enter. Therefore, if any parents or siblings want to run this Saturday you are more than welcome.

The race is 2 laps of the old airfield behind our playing fields and the boys will be timed and the results are published later that day on the website. Information can be found at www.parkrun.org.uk/roundshaw/

The distance will be a challenge to some of the younger age groups who have less experience and so if the Year 7 runners wish to stop running at the end of the first lap they can do so – I will be at that position. If they feel fresh they can, of course, complete the course.

We will meet at the Pavilion at 8.15 as the race begins at 9.00. If you want to meet us at the start of the race itself, details are on the link above, but basically the start is near to the Battle of Britain Memorial on Purley Way.

If you have never run a Parkrun you will need to register before the race online. You will then have to print off a barcode which you carry in your pocket when running. This is then used to link the time to the runner. If you have registered before, remember your barcode this time!!

I will be available in Room 72 throughout the week, and in particular Friday lunchtime for any runners who need to register and print off their details.

2nd at Borough Champs!

Huge congrats to the cross country squad who braved the weather to finish a very close second place overall to Wilsons in the Sutton Borough Champs at Sutton Grammar. In the 4 age groups the Year 7s were amazing winning their group - the first to do so from JFS in 8 years. The Year 8/9 and 10/11 came third with our seniors once again winning their group. Overall we tied on positions but were pipped to the title on points. Well done to all the runners

House Cross-Country

The much-anticipated and much delayed House Cross-Country took place on Wednesday 10th October

Results to follow!

League Relay at Tiffin

With one minibus again it was decided to take just Inters and Juniors and this saw some of our new Year 7 runners represent the school for the first time

Well done to all who ran, in a rather depleted event.

The miles in the legs and breath in the lungs will prove vital in the coming months!

Well done to all who ran, special mention to Ebuka for his excellent time!

6th at Kings

The Senior squad travelled the short distance to the prestigious Kings Trophy Race on Wimbledon College and ran with distinction the 4.5 miles run to finish in 6th place

Without last year's winner Ricky Lutakome and with some runners lacking miles in the legs, the expectations were for everyone to run well and those expectations were exceeded with a final placing of 6th and some excellent performances.

Special mention to Year 10 Freddy Georgiou who continues to impress at this level, plus Harry Smith & Peter Edwards who put some serious effort in to get back to their fitness levels

The first JFS finisher was Gianluca, showing the benefit of a summer's running, followed by Freddy and then Tambling, Jones and the much improved Malachi Messette

Well done to all the runners!

Charterhouse Success

The season began in epic style, in epic running conditions in the epic surroundings of Charterhouse in deepest Surrey

Usually later in the season this would prove a tough opener with the infamous Charterhouse Hill and tough, varied course sure to test those runners who had let their fitness slip during the long summer off-season

With only one minibus deployed it was also depleted numbers but all those who attended ran with real heart and in a smaller field than usual we left with medals!

the Junior Team came 3rd after a challenging 2.2m run including some major hills. Ebuka excelled coming 3rd. The Seniors had 2 laps to contend with and finished in 2nd place with new recruit Robbie Tambling debuting with a 3rd place finish and Freddy from Year 10 finishing 4th! Fantastic all round!
