Tiffin Success

Saturday saw a strong JFS XC squad travel to Tiffin for the League race against Oxted and Tiffin themselves.

The day also saw the XC debuts of a number of Year 7 runners, selected after their efforts the previous Friday during games - all acquitted themselves impressively!

With a slightly changed course, Tiffin still remained a flat course with firm footing. With dry and clear weather it was perfect conditions!

A very large junior field of 50+ runners set off on their 2.5km course having received last minute instructions from the Tiffin staff, here are some of the Junior team looking a tad apprehensive but determined to do their best.

What a great performance they all put in as seen below

Well done to Alfie and Freddie for continuing their form of last year. Ebuka and Matthew ran a great pace throughout for their finishes and all in all impressive runs were seen by ALL the runners.

John Fisher has a fantastic sporting reputation so congrats to those representing the school for the first time!

A final place of 2nd was secured!

The Inters and Seniors were run together, but confusion at the finis meant that I could not distinguish between the 2 and so final results will come later in the week.

They ran a 3.5km course and below are their finishing positions in the combines race, Inters and Seniors, and their times

Obviously this table has years 9-13 in it, and the Inters are in BOLD

Very well done to Harry who showed the benefit of his summer training, some others need to get some miles in the leg before greater challenges to come

Final positions will come later, but well done to all who ran

Next weeks sees the home fixture at Plough Lane so lets all run well and defend our home turf!

OXTED SUCCESS

The XC season kicked off with a postponement - the Croydon Harriers Meet postponed until later in the season.

With only one minibus this meant that a smaller group of runners was sent to Oxted, with no Junior team, although Junior runners ran for the Inters.

This was a mile long relay, and usually Oxted is wet and muddy. On this occasion the ground was firm and the weather conditions perfect!

Two Inters teams were entered and both ran really well, especially as this was the first run for some of the runners

A Team - 2nd Place

Freddie Georgiou   5.48
Joe Logue               5.45
Alfie Smith             5.42
Jude Watson           6.16

B Team - 4th Place

Luca Gerges    6.13
Joe Roberst      6.42
Galvin Biju      6.45
Peter Edwards  6.15

Seniors - 1st Place

The Senior team ran very well indeed to win, and continue the winning league streak from last season.

Harry Smith         5.15
Jacob Jones          5.34
Ricky Lutakome  4.42 (Course record)
Fabien Daburn     5.39

Massive congratulations to Ricky for beating the course record by ONE SECOND, and he would admit he is not at peak fitness just yet. Special mention to Year 10 Harry Smith also who beat the Inters record comfortably, but was running as a senior despite so was denied the result!

Well done all for a successful morning - now onto Tiffin next week!

NEW LEADERSHIP TEAM ANNOUNCED

I am very pleased to announce that Sean McAllister from Year 13 has been appointed the captain of the Cross-Country team for this season.

Sean has run for the school since Year 7, and has never let the school down. He has loads of experience to pass on and is looking forward to the role.

Sean will be focussing primarily on the Senior Team on Wednesdays, although still able to run the major races on weekends.

Therefore I am delighted to also announce the appointment of Joint Vice-Captains, Alex and Ryan Galvin

They will be focussing on the Junior and Inter team, as well as acting in Sean's place when he is unavailable at weekends.

Both boys are extremely talented and dedicated runners who have been hugely successful in their years at Fisher, as well as being the most recognizable on the competition 'circuit'.

The leadership team will take over from Robert Spalding who was an outstanding captain for 2 years. We wish him well for his University days.

Now onto the new season!

Well done Ricky - England Athlete

Following on from his 4th place finish at the English Schools National Race Ricky Lutakome was selected to run for the England team in the Home Counties International Race at Falkirk in Scotland this weekend.

We are all obviously massively proud of his achievement, and we should not forget that Ricky's achievement reflects on to the entire Cross Country Squad, Junior to Senior.

Ricky ran the 6k course in 19.24 and finished in 4th place overall.

WELL DONE RICKY

WHAT A FABULOUS ACHIEVEMENT

HARROW GLORY

The South East XC Champs were held on a Sunday this year as opposed to the usual Saturday and this wiped out much of the team due to football commitments, nevertheless we traveled to Harrow with a team bursting with talent and determination.

The Juniors did not have a full team but Peter Edwards, Freddie Georgiou and Luca Gerges all ran well but found the course tough.

The Inters team finished 5th overall, but the highlight amongst the great runs by all was Ricky winning by a long distance, thus becoming Champion of the South East

Here is the Inter Team

Here they are tucking into their food

Here is Mr Fell's personalised cake!

Radley Success!

The Inters Relay Team carried all before them on Friday and won the Radley Relays at a canter after strong performances from all involved

INTERS
A Galvin  12.15
F Daburn  12.45
Lutakome  11.13   (FASTEST LAP OVERALL)
R Galvin  11.52     (4th fastest lap)

Ercolano   12.45
Smith  12.38
Jones  13.18

Hodgson  13.31

A GREAT RESULT ON AN EXTREMELY MUDDY COURSE
