SILVER SUCCESS AT CHARTERHOUSE

The XC team travelled to picturesque Godalming on Saturday for the much anticipated Charterhouse Meet. This famous private school always offers a great welcome and a challenging course, including the infamous 'Charterhouse Hill' - 128 metres of pain that rises 85 ft.  Once tried - never forgotten! The course was proper cross-country with forest, path, grass, roots and mud to contend with

The Inters and Seniors have to run the course - plus the hill - twice!

Anyhow, the Junior Team performed very well on the 2 mile course finishing in 2nd place overall!

The Competition was hard but it was fantastic to see Harry finish 4th - that was with an injured ankle that needed medical help from the on-site physio. Jude Watson was also on course for a good finish but also twisted his ankle and quite rightly had to retire from the race

The Inters also ran really well - at this meet Years 10-11 constitute Inters. They finished 2nd overall also having run 2 laps of the course - a tough 4-miles!

As you can see below the top 4 finishers ran superbly, with Ricky shining once more, and the Galvin's living up to their XC Legends billing. Jacob Jones ran as usual with grit and determination to finish as the 4th scorer. With a couple of absences from the normal team 1st place was just out of reach this time around

No photos from the course for the Inters I am afraid as I was in the Medical Unit with the two walking wounded from the earlier Juniors Race, however here is Ricky picking up his medal for finishing 2nd

The Seniors could not turn out the 4 runners needed for a team, but the Halfacre twins wanted to run and all credit to them. They both ran well as seen below

Charterhouse Meet on Sat

This week’s race is a competition put on by Charterhouse – a famous and very old public school in Godalming.
The postcode is GU7 2DX if your parents are taking you straight there.
Use the entrance by the Lodge and keep going until you get to the big Gothic style building on your left where the start is. There is parking close by. Be there by 2.00 at the latest as your race starts at 2.30 and we need to declare you.  Please let us know if your parents are taking you there so that we can fill the minibuses.

Minibuses will be leaving from school at 12.00. We will be returning to school by about 5.45 after a hot meal and results presentation.

Some of you may be asked to play a short rugby match against Whitgift in the morning. Please let us know early this week if you do not wish to run in the afternoon as well.
You will need to bring a small lunch if you are doing both. Mr Fell will pick you up from Whitgift if your game is away.

Please email me if you are going direct or there are any issues at dfell@suttonlea.org

OXTED RELAY FUN!

The first League relay of the season saw a depleted Fisher compete at Oxted School. The Nationals the previous day had seen some runners injured or struggling and only one minibus cut numbers down.

The Junior Team struggled against teams from Oxted and Trinity but there were some great times recorded on the sub-mile route

Freddie Georgious   6.25
Luke Barclay           6.59
Peter Edwards          6.02
Ragu Aravinthan      7.09

Galvin Biju               6.36

Jude Watson was the only Inter present so he ran in the Senior B Team. The A Team won convincingly and there were some superb times recorded!

Ryan Galvin         5.19
Alex Galvin          5.24
John Erne             5.15
Ricky Lutakome   4.54

Fabien Daburn      5.28
Jude Watson         6.34

Ricky was 11 seconds away from the Senior Course record - whilst still being a Year 11!

CONGRATS TO ALL RUNNERS!

NATIONAL ROUND ONE RESULTS!

Friday 2nd October saw the Junior and Inter XC Teams travel to Alleyns School in Dulwich for the First Round of the National Schools SC Championships.

556 schools compete in the event, and both teams hoped to qualify for the South-East Regional Round 2, although competition would be very tough!

The Junior Team
L-R Freddie Georgiou, Luca Gerges, Alfie Smith, Dylan Hill, Peter Edwards

The course was a number of loops around the Alleyn's sports field, conditions were good for running, if a little warm.

It was obvious immediately that the Whitgift Junior Team were strong and their top 5 runners quickly settled into the top 5 positions.

Alfie Smith showed real guts to finish in 8th posistion - a fantastic feat. Peter Edwards looked strong and finished 31st, followed by Freddie Georgious in 36th. Luca Gerges (41st) and Dylan Hill (44th) both showed 100% determination and effort.

The Juniors finished with 115pts and in 6th position and should be very pleased with their performance!

The Inters Team performed fantastically in their race:
Harry Smith led the team finishing in 9th Place

Jacob Jones (17th) and Gianluca Ercolano (20th) spurred each other on

Daniel Hodgson held his position to finish 31st

Oliver Waghorn ended 39th and showed real grit

These efforts meant that the Inters Team finished in 3rd position overall, beating Whitgift by just 2 points!

Qualification for the next round is a great achievement

Well done to all who ran so well!

SENIORS IMPRESS AT KINGS TROPHY

The Senior Team traveled to picturesque Wimbledon Common last Wednesday for the annual, and much anticipated Kings Trophy, hosted by Kings College.

This 4.5 mile run through forest and field is a tough examination and it attracts the very best runners from the South East.

Here are the 12 intrepid runners.

What is particularly pleasing is that the normal senior team or Year 11 and 6th form students were joined by Gianluca Ercolano and Jacob Jones from Year 10 and Harry Smith from Year 9.
Here is Robert Spalding, XC Captain in his first outing of the year after injury inspiring the team with a last minute huddle

Unfortunately, XC talisman Ricky Lutakome was running well and placed in the top 5 runners when a confused course marshall sent him alongside the other top 10 runners the wrong way and so he finished 52nd, denied a top 5 finish! He has two more years though!

Around 150 runners competed, and we are waiting for the official finishing positions for each runner, but the A Team finished 5th overall which was an improvement of one place on 2014.

Most importantly every runner improved their time from 2104. Ryan Galvin finished 14th and was the first Fisher runner home, and special mention to Harry Smith who finished in 38th position!

The full results will be published when they arrive!
